I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
I don't hate muted tones anymore!
September 10, 2016
It's funny to watch your taste in style evolve over the years. I used to think butterfly clips would give me the 'it factor' in high school, that a pixie cut would give me that 'je ne sais quoi' in my early twenties (it didn't, it just made my face look fat), and at some point I even thought I could pull off a poncho and cowboy boots. No Lydia, no you can't.
It's super embarrassing to look back at previous fashion choices, but at the same time I guess you have to try things out and let your style grow organically. I just wish the evolution process could've saved me some dignity along the way...
I've definitely found in the past couple of years though, that my tastes are becoming a lot more refined and sophisticated. I like clean lines now, fine tailoring, beautiful fabrics and unusual details. Being such an advocate for bright colours all my life, it's weird for me to be attracted to more muted softer tones now. Don't get me wrong, I'd still take fuchsia and electric blue any day, but I'm learning to love a wider range of colours now, which is exciting!
Inspired by the monochromatic trend in clothing made popular by the Kardashians, I tried my hand at designing a muted blue outfit that I would want to wear. I think muted tones look better on darker skin personally, but I'd still love to give something like this a whirl..
